Balinese Style Interiors: 5 Bathroom Design Ideas

For each of us, home is a place of power! Concepts like fashion and trends lose their meaning there, and your desires and comfort come first. During the pandemic, many decided to transform their homes and started renovating. This is even clearer when thinking about the shortage of tiles on the market and about how tile layers are fully booked for the year ahead.

One of the most popular searches for design ideas remains “Balinese style bathroom interior”. Many people associate the fabulous island of Bali to stunning nature, tranquility, harmony, relaxed environments and a special atmosphere. Anyone who has visited the Indonesian island at least once and was imbued with its energy will certainly try to recreate its atmosphere at home!

We have collected for you 5 of the most stylish Balinese bathroom design ideas that can be turned into reality using Italon tiles. The main idea behind each project is life in harmony with nature.

1 | TEXTURED TILES AND FURNITURE FROM NATURAL WOOD

Balinese interiors feature a lot of wood, including bathrooms.

The most popular kinds are teak and suar, both of which never cease to amaze with their interesting structures and high price. An excellent and more affordable alternative is elm wood.

The project by Irina Pashina (@irina_pashina) features a tabletop and a mirror frame with untreated edges made out of elm tree. This type of wood is resistant to moisture, therefore it is boldly used even in wet areas.

A river stone sink looks especially harmonious against a wooden background.

When creating a Balinese atmosphere, it is important to choose the right tiles, turning to the textured surfaces that realistically imitate natural materials.

“Warm wood and cold stone from the Climb collection harmoniously coexist in the interior, and the roughness of all the textures in this bathroom is reminiscent of primordial and natural elements” says the author of the project.

In his project, Artem Alekseev (@artalekseev.design) put graphics

to the forefront of the tiles instead of texture.

Expressive and non-repetitive graphics embodied in gray porcelain stoneware,

Skyfall Grigio Alpino 60×120 with a honed satin finish, creating the perfect atmosphere.

Warm shade of wood-effect tiles, Palissandro 20×160 with matt finish

from the same collection, bring the needed warmth and comfort to the space.

And, of course, the stone sink and the elm countertop make the Balinese look truly complete.

2 | DECOR WITH INDONESIAN MOTIVES

You can create a Balinese mood in a modern bathroom with the help of paintings or decor, but the main thing is to know when to stop so as not to turn the interior into a completely ethnic one.

The proper background will help you with it. We recommend trying slate-effect porcelain stoneware from the Materia collection.

For a bathroom with a shower stall, designer Yulia Rodionova (@juliarodionova.design) chose the darkest shade from Materia: Titanio 60×60 with honed satin finish, and complemented it with wood-effect tiles from Loft: Honey 20×160 with matt finish.

The wall behind the washbasin was highlighted with Materia Titanio mosaics 30×30, and the shower stall with stylish slats, Loft Tatami Honey 20×80.

Themed figurines with motifs of Balinese culture, a living moss panel on the wall with plaster fish, and dark pebbles on the floor, helped provide the room with expressiveness.

3 | FREE-STANDING BATH, PEBBLES AND LIVING PLANTS

For many, a Balinese bathroom interior is associated with a large free-standing bathtub and a picturesque view of the outside from the window.

How can this be replicated in the small bathroom of an apartment or house? We have some ideas!

If you are fortunate enough to have a spacious bathroom with a window, position the bath so you can enjoy the view and natural light. Tiles can be selected with active graphics, and be sure to use more greenery and plants!

Designers from L’Fusion Buro (@lfusionburo) have managed to create a fabulous spa-atmosphere just like in Bali.

The bathroom looks spacious with a lot of air and light, and natural colors are everywhere. Porcelain stoneware imitating natural stone, Magnetique Petrol Dark and Mineral White 30×60 and 60×60, is complemented by live plants, wicker furniture and wood furnishings.

Another popular Balinese style interior design technique is the use of pebbles.

Most often, laid directly next to the bath.

Designer Alena Shuklina (@alena_shuklina) placed a freestanding bathtubon the podium, which she decorated with snow-white pebbles in the color of the plumbing fixtures, placing living plants above the bathtub.

Light gray porcelain stoneware on the walls and on the floor, Materia Carbonio 80×80 with matt finish, lends an authentic touch to the interior.

The large format and matt finish very realistically recreate the beauty of slate slab.

4 | LIGHT WALLS AND NATURAL MATERIALS

Contemporary Balinese villas are decorated in light colors.

Firstly, this is due to the hot climate, and secondly, it helps create a space free from boundaries, focusing on the view outside the window.

This technique was used by designers from the Frino studio. The bathroom with the working title “Bali Sand” was decorated in light colors. Stone effect porcelain stoneware, Contempora Pure 60×120 with a honed satin finish, was a perfect fit for the project.

The shower area was complemented by tiles with a soft texture imitating hazel wood and mosaics matching the color of the background tile Pure 30×30.

A stone sink and pebbles on the shower floor helped create a relaxing Bali-like atmosphere.

5 | MORE SPACE AND MINIMUM DETAILS

This interior was created by Darina Kazakova (@darina_irkdesign) to make her clients feel like they’re on vacation.

She used concrete-effect porcelain stoneware, Millennium Pure 80×160, and Loft Honey 20×160 with matt finish recreating the texture of oak wood.

There are no unnecessary details that can distract you.

The large tile format helped the designer emphasize the naturalness of the materials used in the decoration. Live plants, wicker storage baskets, and textured furnishings have helped create Balinese coziness.

A large mirror of an unusual shape, reminiscent of a stone, became the highlight of the project.

If in our selection you have found an idea for a bathroom design that you have dreamed of for a long time, it’s time to go for it! Adopt the techniques described above and bring the interior of your dreams to life with the spirit of the extraordinary island of Bali!
